It's Time for a City Charter Review
The City of Independence Charter is the document that governs how the city operates. It was originally adopted in 1961 and has been amended by the voters several times since then but the last amendment was 2002 and it is long past due for a review. This issue was identified as a priority by the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and we need our members to voice their support to the city council so we can push this across the finish line and start the long overdue process of reviewing the Charter.
It is expected that the Charter Commission resolution will be before the Council on Monday, August 1st and we need you to reach out to Council members indicating your support and asking for theirs. The Charter Commission only makes recommendations and any proposed changes would have to be approved by a vote of the people after the review process is completed.
Take a moment today to voice your support.
